The firm is owned and managed by Michael Jewell who has over three decades of professional planning experience in Queensland. Michael also has a previous qualification in surveying and is a member of the Planning Institute of Australia.

Development Project Facilitation
We recommend approval strategies for a range of projects across all sectors from residential to commercial and industrial developments. Being an independent town planning consultancy, we work collaboratively with all other allied professional services in delivering timely and cost-efficient client approval outcomes. Our team also has project experience in delivering approval outcomes for major projects under the Planning Act 2016, State Development and Public Works Organisation Act 1971 and Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.
Residential
Our firm is proficient in preparing and lodging development applications for low density and higher density residential projects in regional Queensland. In particular, we are committed to the design and delivery of innovative and mixed residential density solutions for residential communities. Other living options our firm is engaged in include: multi-level residential, student/hostel accommodation, townhouse development, retirement and aged care facilitated living and mining region workers accommodation.
Expert Evidence
Our firm is experienced in providing town planning expert evidence in the Planning and Environment Court and Land Court, in compliance with current applicable Rules, inclusive of highest and best use assessments. We also provide specific planning advice to clients on potential issues with public sector agencies on development assessment and approval matters.
Industrial Developments
Jewell Planning Consultants provides initial pre-lodgement advice to clients and subsequent DA-lodgement services for small to large scale industrial development proposals. In particular, specialist development advice is provided on siting and setback considerations, as well as optimal GFA site outcomes. Further considerations of highest and best use for industrial sites are also provided, with respect to applicable (and appropriate) Infrastructure Charges (ICs).
Commercial and Office Developments
Members of our firm have been extensively involved with initial advice and lodgement of a range of retail and commercial developments in the Mackay and Cairns regions in northern Queensland. In addition, we are proficient in reviewing and making submissions against proposals that conflict with applicable planning scheme provisions. Our firm is also able to provide advice about the planning aspects that make retail and commercial developments be successful.
Policy Advice and Submissions
Our firm can critically review and provide advice on existing and proposed public sector policies that potentially impact on development and the community. We are also able to provide advice and assist with the process for community infrastructure under the Planning Act 2016.
